A filthy and slightly yellowed A310 in need of a good cleanup.
First, remove the top cover by unscrewing the two screws at either
side of the case.
Next, remove the 3 screws from the rear panel, this will allow
the top cover to be slid off to the rear.
Inside reveals a very dusty interior. Unfortunatly this machine
has no interesting upgrades inside.
Next make a note on paper as to where all the power, disk drive,
battery pack and front panel leads go. Then disconnect them.
At the rear of the case, unscrew and remove the 2 screws which
hold the mainboard in position.
The mainboard can now be withdrawn to the rear. When you get about
halfway out, it may "stick". This is due to a support post in the centre
of the pcb catching on the case, so just wriggle the board to get it out.
The front panel comes off by first removing the 3 self tapping
screws on the underside.
Followed by the 2 screws shown here.
The front panel can now be lifted clear.
To seperate the two halves of the front panel, remove the 2 self
tapping screws shown.
The front panel can now be given a good clean, using only damp
cloth.
To remove the Floppy Disk Drive chassis, unscrew the 2 screws highlighted.
The assemble can now be lifted clear.
To remove the back panel remove the 3 screws highlighted in "RED".
And to remove the PSU unscrew the 4 screws highlighted in "PURPLE"
This picture shows the parts seperated.
Clean the inside of the chassis by first vacuming the interior
then wiping with a damp cloth, followed by drying. The battery pack is
rivited to the chassis so just clean it up as best you can.
The PSU just needs a dust out, it comes apart by unscrewing and
removing the 2 screws shown. Just use a vacum cleaner hose and small paintbrush
to clean it.
With a wet cloth, soak the outer casing. let the water soak into
the dirt for a while then wipe with damp then dry cloths to clean. The
right hand side in this picture has been done. It doesnt really show up
well unfortunatly as the flash was to strong.
Seperate the Disk Drive from its chassis by removing the 2 screws
on either side.
The drive will now lift clear.
The top cover on the drive can be unclipped to alow cleaning. Use
a vacum cleaner hose and paintbrush. These drives are always going to be
filthy, as there is no "door" on the front to prevent dirt getting inside.
(bad design)
Clean the mainboard with a vacum cleaner hose and a paintbrush.
The difference is clearly seen in this photo.
The mainboard fully cleaned, just like new.
All the parts cleaned and laid out ready for re-assembly. Just
do the reverse of above to put it back together.
The A310 re-assembled. I have fitted new batteries so hold down
the "R" key when powering on to reset the CMOS Ram. Also I have upgraded
the unit to Econet (see highlighted section)
The complete Assembly fully working. Its a bit yellowed but it
works, thats the main thing.
